CHATTOGRAM, July 15, 2025 (BSS)- A court here ordered authorities to show ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, former Awami League (AL) Member of Parliament(MP) from Chattogram-6 (Raozan) constituency, arrested in a murder case filed over the killing of a madrasah student Nizam Uddin in Laldighi area under the city's Kotwali Thana during the July mass uprising.

Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate SM Alauddin Mahmud passed the order today (July 15) following a hearing on a petition submitted by the case's Investigating Officer (IO) Khalid Mahmud.

Police said Fazle Karim was not physically produced before the court but attended the hearing virtually from prison through a newly added LED screen in the court.

According to the case statement, the victim-- 21-year old Nizam Uddin, a student in the Hifz section of a madrasah in Baklia's Shantinagar area-- was shot and critically wounded on August 5, 2024 at Laldighi Maidan in the city while participating in an anti-discrimination students movement.

His father Sahab Uddin filed a case with Kotwali Police Station in this connection.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Advocate Md. Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury told BSS that Khalid Mahmud, the investigating officer of the case, requested the arrest of Fazle Karim, who was detained in jail in connection with the shooting and killing of madrasah student Nizam Uddin of Kotwali Police Station. The court granted it after a virtual hearing.

Fazle Karim was arrested on September 12 last year while allegedly attempting to flee to India. He was detained by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) from Abdullahpur in Akhaura border area of Brahmanbaria district.

Since then, he has been in jail.
