Three more remanded in sensational Sohag killing case

DHAKA, July 16, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed three accused on a seven-day remand each in a case filed over the brutal killing of scrap metal trader Lal Chand Mohammad Sohag in the capital's Mitford area.

The three remanded accused are Mohammad Nannu Kazi, Tarek Rahman Robin and Rizwan Uddin.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman passed the order as police produced the trio before the court and pleaded to place them on a 10-day remand each in the case.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Minhazur Rahman on July 16 placed Mahmudul Hasan Mahin on a five-day remand in the case. Earlier on July 10, he was placed on a five-day remand for the first time.

In connection with the same case, a Dhaka court on July 14 placed two brothers-- Sajib Bepari and Rajib Bepari-- on a five-day remand. Earlier, on July 13, another court had placed Alamgir and Monir on a four-day remand each while accused Titon Gazi was placed on a five-day remand on July 12.

According to the case statement, Sohag, 43, was brutally hacked, beaten, and stoned to death on July 9 last near the gate of Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital.

A day after the incident, Sohag's sister Monjuara Begum filed the case with the concerned police station in this connection.
