Four get life-term in Pirojpur murder case

PIROJPUR, July 16, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced four people to life-term imprisonment in a murder case at Nazirpur upazila of the district in 2017. 

The court also fined them Taka 10,000 each, in default, to suffer six months more in jail.

Senior District and Sessions Judge Md. Mujibur Rahman pronounced the verdict this afternoon.

The convicts are Hatem Ali Sheikh, 66, of Madhya Hoglapasha village under Nazipur upazila and his two sons Selim Sheikh, 46, and Majedul Islam Dalim, 41, and Md. Jahangir Sheikh, 51. 

However, Hatem Ali Sheikh died during the course of trial of the case. The other convicts were present in the court when the verdict was announced, a court official said.

According to prosecution, on December 7, 2017, Badsha Sheikh of Madhya Hoglapasha village was attacked by 14-15 people from his neighbors over a land dispute. At that time, the attackers beat him. Later, he was admitted to the Nazirpur Upazila Health Complex where he died in the next day while undergoing treatment.

On the same day, Aklima Begum, the wife of the deceased, filed a murder case with Nazirpur Police Station, naming 13 people.

The Investigation Officer of the case accused six people in the incident and submitted a charge sheet to the court.

After a long hearing, the court sentenced four people to life imprisonment and acquitted two people as the charges brought against them were not proven.
