Three give confessional statements in Sohag killing case

DHAKA, July 17, 2025 (BSS) - Three accused arrested over their roles in barbaric killing of scrap metal trader Lal Chand Md Sohag in the capital's Mitford area recently, have given confessional statements today.

The three accused are- Titon Gazi, Md Alamgir and Monir alias Lomba Monir.

Police produced the trio before the court and pleaded to record their statements under section 164. Allowing the police plea, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Monirul Islam recorder confessional statement of Titon Gazi, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam recorded the statement of Alamgir and Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Zunaid recorded the statement of Monir.

The three accused were later sent back to jail.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman on July 16 placed three other accused - Mohammad Nannu Kazi, Tarek Rahman Robin and Rizwan Uddin - on a seven-day remand each in the case.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Minhazur Rahman on July 15 placed Mahmudul Hasan Mahin on a five-day remand in the case. Earlier on July 10, he was placed on a five-day remand for the first time.

In connection with the same case, a Dhaka court on July 14 placed two brothers - Sajib Bepari and Rajib Bepari - on a five-day remand. Earlier, on July 13, another court had placed Alamgir and Monir on a four-day remand each while accused Titon Gazi was placed on a five-day remand on July 12.

According to the case statement, Sohag, 43, was brutally hacked, beaten, and stoned to death on July 9 last near the gate of Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital.

A day after the incident, Sohag's sister Monjuara Begum filed the case with the concerned police station in this connection.
