DHAKA, July 21, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy has said that politicians have a responsibility to ensure an environment where people of all religious faiths can live with dignity.

"Bangladesh is a non-communal state. Our political duty should be to ensure that people of all religions can live safely and with full dignity," he said.

Gayeshwar made the remarks as the chief guest at a tree plantation programme organized in memory of the July martyrs at Nazirpur ground in Tegharia union under Dhaka South Keraniganj upazila on Sunday.

Gayeshwar said religion is being misused in politics to confuse people, which he termed a moral and political crime. "Religion is a spiritual asset. It must not be used as a tool for vote politics," he said.

People are now more aware and don't easily fall into such traps, he added.

"The blood of the July martyrs must not go in vain. Their dreams and aspirations must be fulfilled," he said.

The event was chaired by Dhaka District Unit Krishak Dal Convener Juwel Molla. Among others, South Keraniganj Thana Unit BNP General Secretary Mozadded Ali, Dhaka District Unit Krishak Dal Member Secretary Abu Hanif, and Tegharia Union Unit BNP Joint Convener Sirajul Islam also spoke.
