DHAKA, July 21, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today showed seven people, including former law minister Anisul Huq and Salman F Rahman, former adviser to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, arrested in two separate cases filed over murder attempts that were made during the July-August mass uprising.
The five other people, who were shown arrested today, are Rashed Khan Menon, Hasanul Haque Inu, Atiqul Islam, Sadek Khan and Syed Sayedul Haque Suman.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiak passed the orders as police produced the seven before the court and pleaded to show them arrested in the cases. The court then sent them back to jail.
Of the seven, Anisul, Salman, Inu, Menon, Sadek Khan and Atiqul were shown arrested in the Shahriar Hossain Rokon murder attempt case filed with the Mohammadpur Police Station. Syed Sayedul Haque Suman was shown arrested on lawyer Abdul Baset Shamim murder attempt case filed with the Mugda Police Station.
According to the case documents, Shahriar Hossain Rokon joined an anti-discrimination student rally on July 19, 2024, in the Mohammadpur area. As the rally reached in front of Moyur Villa, it came under attack, and Rokon got shot in his left leg. Rokon's father, Monir Hossain, filed the case on September 3.
Judge Court lawyer Abdul Baset Shamim was returning from his workplace on July 18, 2024, to his Mugda home. As he reached in front of Babu Doctor Goli in Mugda, he got shot by police and received shrapnel on his hand, forehead, chest, chin and abdomen. Shamim later filed the case with the Mugda Police Station on September 1.
