DHAKA, July 22, 2025 (BSS) - As part of the government initiatives, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) today launched a training programme for e-rickshaw drivers.

"Each trained e-rickshaw driver will get driving license for Taka 50 only," DSCC Administrator Md Shahjahan Mia said.

He inaugurated the first phase of training programme for three-wheeled low-speed battery-run rickshaw drivers at Nagar Bhaban auditorium here.

In the first phase, e-rickshaw training started at the community centres of the five zonal offices of the DSCC's Transport Department, which will continue till July 31.

The DSCC administrator said 150 trainers have been appointed to conduct training and the training activities will be continued until October in different phases.

"A total of 4,500 e-rickshaw drivers will be trained in the first phase. There will be honorarium and food for the trainee rickshaw drivers," he said.

Shahjahan said the government has taken initiatives to operate e-rickshaws in Dhaka City Corporation area aimed at reducing traffic congestion and unexpected accidents.

He said that city life came to a standstill and the normal activities of citizens are at risk due to uncontrolled and unsafe battery-powered rickshaws along with traffic jam.

DSCC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Md Zahirul Islam, secretary Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, general manager (Transport) Mohammad Nasim Ahmed and others were present at the event.
