KHULNA, July 22, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman today said that his party wants honest and dedicated leadership in the country.

"We've seen many regimes. They were not about governance, rather they were about exploitation. Now, we want honest leadership in the country," he said.

"We want to fight for the cause of Islam until our last breath. I wish to leave this world as a martyr," he said while addressing a roadside gathering as the chief guest on the premises of Chalna Billalia Alim Madrasa in Dacope Upazila, Khulna.

He also prayed to the Almighty Allah, saying that Allah might grant the country the rule of the Qur'an.

Earlier, the Jamaat Ameer visited the residence of Maulana Abu Sayeed, the late Ameer of Dacope Upazila Jamaat, who died in a tragic road accident while traveling to a national rally in Dhaka.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman offered condolences to the grieving family and visited the martyr's grave at Chalna Government Municipal Graveyard, offering prayers for his forgiveness.

The gathering was also attended by Jamaat's Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar as special guest.

Acting Ameer of Dacope Upazila, Maulana Akhtaruzzaman, presided over the event, while Upazila Secretary Maulana Md. Wahiduzzaman conducted it.

Among others, Central Organizational Secretary and Khulna Regional Director Muhaddis Abdul Khaleq, and Central Working Committee Member and Khulna Regional Assistant Director Maulana Abul Kalam Azad were present.

Dr Shafiqur arrived in the district by helicopter this morning.

Later, he left for Ishwardi, Pabna to visit the family of another martyred Jamaat member, Mostafizur Rahman Kalam.
