DHAKA, July 26, 2025 (BSS) - Journalists should place the highest priority on human rights when reporting during disasters or crises, speakers emphasized at a workshop held in the capital today.

The call came during a day-long workshop on "International Humanitarian Law and Humanitarian Reporting During Disasters or Crises", jointly organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Bangladesh and the Supreme Court Reporters' Forum (SRF) at a city hotel.

SRF President Masudur Rahman presided over the session, which brought together 30 SRF members working with various national and international media outlets.

ICRC Legal Adviser Fahmida Karim, Communication and Prevention Officer Dipali Gosh, Digital Officer Md Sabir Hossain, senior journalist and blogger Mohsin-ul Hakim and SRF General Secretary Mehedi Hasan Dalim addressed the programme, among others.

The discussants urged journalists to avoid publishing content that could hinder rescue operations, such as graphic images or personal details of the injured. They also advised against disclosing names, identities, or videos of individuals affected by disasters.
