3 killed in separate road accidents in Tejgaon

DHAKA, Dec 31, 2025 (BSS) - Three people, including a visually impaired man and his young daughter, were killed in separate road accidents in the capital's Tejgaon Industrial Area in the early hours of today.

The deceased were identified as Rafiqul Islam, 45, his 12-year-old daughter Tanzila, and a 35-year-old man whose identity could not be confirmed immediately.

Rafiqul's son, Nur Islam, 14, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment in a city hospital.

Police said the victims hailed from Bhatiabo village under Purbadhala upazila of Netrokona district.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Apu of Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station said Rafiqul, who was visually impaired, lived with his family in the Wireless area near the Moghbazar Railgate. 
His two children were students of a local madrasah, he added.

The accident occurred around 3:00am when the family was travelling in a battery-run auto-rickshaw to the Mohakhali Bus Terminal on their way to their village home, he said. 

A speeding truck rammed the auto-rickshaw at Tejgaon Satrasta area and fled the scene, leaving Rafiquland his two children injured on the spot, the SI added.

The injured were taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared Rafiqul and Tanzila dead at around 4:45am. 

Their bodies were sent to the DMCH morgue for autopsy.

In another incident, a man, aged about 35, was killed in a road accident in front of the Mohakhali Bus Terminal in the Tejgaon Industrial Area.

Sub-Inspector Abdul Hamid said police recovered the injured man from the spot and took him to DMCH around 4:30am where physicians declared him dead. 

Efforts are underway to ascertain his identity using information technology, he added.
