Govt to procure 35,000 MTs of fertilizer from Russia 

DHAKA, Aug 6, 2026 (BSS) - The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) today approved a proposal to import 35,000 metric tons of Muriate of Potash (MOP) fertilizer from Russia under a state-level arrangement.

The meeting, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, approved the proposal for importing the third lot of MOP fertilizer from Russia's state-owned JSC "Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodintorg)" under an agreement signed with the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC).

According to the proposal placed by the Ministry of Agriculture, the fertilizer will be imported with an estimated cost of Tk 168.29 crore.

The price of MOP fertiliser has been fixed at $388.55 per metric ton for a total quantity of 35,000 metric tons, with a provision for a plus or minus 10 percent variation.

The recommended supplier for the consignment is JSC "Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodintorg)", Russia.

The government has been importing fertilizer through various arrangements to ensure adequate supply of agricultural inputs and maintain stability in the domestic market.
