DHAKA, Aug 11, 2026 (BSS) — The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested a man for allegedly impersonating senior officers of the army, police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and cheating people with promises of government jobs.

Speaking at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre, Md Shafiqul Islam, Additional Commissioner of DMP and DB Chief, said Md Nurul Chowdhury, 40, was arrested in a raid at a house in Uttara around 3:40am today.

Police recovered two walkie-talkies, fake passports and identity cards showing him as an army major and RAB colonel, three mobile phones, 10 army uniforms, fake recruitment notices, application forms and other documents.

Islam said Nurul used aliases including “Major Al Mamun”, “Colonel Nazim” and “Major Tanvir” to lure unemployed youths, rickshaw pullers, labourers and other low-income people with promises of army jobs.

He also allegedly impersonated law enforcement officials to blackmail and threatened people with false cases to extort money.

A fraud case is already pending against Nurul with Shah Ali Police Station.
