DHAKA, June 05, 2026 (BSS)- Jamuna Bridge authorities collected Taka 29.76 crore toll from more than 3,96,000 vehicles during the 11 days of the Eid holydays, officials said.

“A total of 3,96,000 vehicles crossed the bridge from May 21 to May 31 from which Taka 29.96 crore toll was collected, ” said Syed Riaz Uddin, executive engineer Jamuna Bridge said.

He said highest traffic volume was recorded on Tuesday, two day before the Eid Ul Azha with 56,239 vehicles crossing the bridge.

On the first day of Eid travel, Sunday, 39,919 vehicles crossed the bridge, generating over Taka 3.15 crore. Of those, 22,112 vehicles headed toward northern districts, while 17,807 vehicles traveled toward Dhaka.

Traffic increased sharply before Eid, specially on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Eid day when 1,74,084 vehicles used the bridge and toll collection was recorded Taka 12.36 crore, he said.

The executive engineer said authorities operated 18 toll booths- nine on each side of the bridge- to handle the increased volume of vehicles. Separate motorcycle booths were also kept in operation to facilitate smooth movement.

He said that toll collection was previously managed under a computerized system. Since late 2024, China Road and Bridge Corporation under government arrangements is collecting toll.

Police and bridge officials worked around the clock to manage traffic and reduce congestion during the peak travel period to ease traffic congestion.

The bridge, inaugurated in 1998, has remained one of Bangladesh’s most important transport links connecting the capital with the country’s northern and northwestern regions.
