DHAKA, March 11, 2024 (BSS)—Left-arm spinner Tanvir Ahmed claimed 4-26 as defending champions Abahani Limited made a solid start to the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), crushing Partex Sporting Club by 171 runs at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.
Put into bat first, Abahani Limited compiled 268-9 before Tanvir caught Partex in spin-web to dismiss them for 97 in 32.4 overs.
Opener Sabbir Hossain made team-high 71 off 59, clattering 10 fours and two sixes. His whirlwind start was instrumental in steering the side to a respectable total despite Abahani looked stifled halfway through the innings.
His opening partner Naim Sheikh scored 37 and the duo put on 107 runs for the opening stand to give the side a solid base.
Asaduzzaman Payel broke through with the wicket of Sabbir and then gave the side a double delight, getting rid of Naim and Afif Hossain in consecutive deliveries.
Captain Mosaddek Hossain Saikat added 42 while Saifuddin chipped-in-with fluent 31 to help the side reach a stable position.
Payel and Mohor Sheikh took three wickets of Partex but their batters couldn’t demonstrate the greet the bowlers displayed in patches at least.
Tanvir wrecked havoc on Partex after Saifuddin and Syed Khaled Ahmed gave the initial breakthrough.
Another left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan played to a second fiddle to Tanvir with 2-22 as Partex found them in wanting. Saifuddin also had figures of 2-16.
Rajibul Isalm was the top-scorer for Partex with 20 while Muktar Ali scored 14.
