Abahani, Prime Bank register second straight victory in DPL

DHAKA, March 14, 2024 (BSS)—Abahani Limited and Prime Bank Cricket Club registered their second straight victory in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League (DPL) by beating their respective opponents with ease at different venues across the city today.

While Abahani and Prime Bank prevailed, another title aspirant Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club were upset by Shinepukur Cricket Club after being consigned to six-wicket defeat at BKSP-3 ground.

Sabbir Hossain continued his rich vein of form, smashing 80 ball-98 with 10 fours and four sixes as Abahani Limited thrashed Gazi Tyres Cricket Academy by 146 runs by DLS method at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah.

 Jaker Ali Anik was unbeaten on 76 off 48 balls after clobbering three fours and five sixes while Mahmudul Hasan Joy made 73.

Iqbal Hasan Emon of Gazi Tyres gave away 104 runs in nine overs, which was the worst bowling figure for a Bangladeshi bowler in List A cricket. He though took two wicket. Maruf Mridha also claimed 2-65.

Due to a spell of shower which delayed the game for 30 minutes, Gazi Tyres’ got a revised target of 310 to win in 40 overs. However they were able to put up 163-9 in 40 overs with Tahjibul Islam making highest 58.

Openers Shahadat Hossain Dipu and Parvez Hossain Emon hit centuries as Prime Bank crushed Brothers Union by 165 runs at BKSP-4 ground.

Emon hammered 151 off 129 with nine fours and eight sixes while Dipu hit 119 off 111 with 10 fours and four sixes as Prime Bank racked up a hefty 380-4 after the match was reduced to 49 overs. Tamim Iqbal who batted at one down position after delaying to reach the BKSP ground due to traffic jam made 16.

In reply, Brothers Union were restricted to 215-9 with Najmul Apu and Sunzamul Islam taking three wickets each to wreck havoc on the batters.

Put into bat first, Sheikh Jamal posted 237-7 in a match reduced to 47 overs with captain Nurul Hasan Sohan hitting highest 80. Shykat Ali made 56. Riding on three half-centuries from opener Khalid Hasan (66), Marshall Ayub (57) and captain Akbar Ali (62 not out), Shinepukur overhauled the target in 44.5 overs by making 238-4.
