Tigresses suffer 7-wicket defeat to South Africa in T20 WC

DHAKA, Oct 12, 2024 (BSS) - Bangladesh Women's team's T20 World Cup mission ended in a disappointing fashion as they suffered a seven-wicket defeat to South Africa in their last match of the group phase at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in UAE today.

The Tigresses, as it is adorably called, put up 106-3, a total which South Africa gunned down in 17.2 overs, reaching 107-3.

Tazmin Brits top-scored for South Africa with 42 while Anneke Bosch made 25.

Chole Tryon was not out on 14 and Marizanne Capp scored an unbeaten 13 to drive the side home.

Fahima Khatun took two wickets for 19 runs in four overs.

Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat first but hardly could rotate the scoreboard rapid, a thing that was badly needed considering it was their must win game.

Sobhana Mostary made team-best 38 while skipper Nigar Sultana Joty scored 32.

The Tigresses got off to the winning start, having beaten Scotland but lost the next two matches against England and West Indies. The South Africa match was their must-win game to stay alive for semifinal but they failed to register a victory.
