DHAKA, Oct 14, 2024 (BSS) - Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, Shuvagoto Hom, Mominul Haque and Rubel Hossain were amongst the prominent names who are overlooked in the 11th edition of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) players draft which was held today at a local hotel in the city.
There were 198 local cricketers in the draft with seven teams already obtaining 17 cricketers from that list through direct signing and retentions.
Out of the remaining 181 cricketers, 72 got the team from the draft.
Mosaddek Hosain is a regular face who performed in the Dhaka League despite not doing very well in the last BPL. But this time none of the seven teams could faith in the offspin all-rounder.
Mominul Haque, who earned the tag as a Test specialist, does not always get a team in the draft. The same picture is being repeated in the last few years. Later, the teams took him out of the draft. Last time he played in Rangpur Riders despite being ignored in the draft. The left-handed batter did not get a team this time also.
Meanwhile, Shuvagoto was retained by Chattogram Challengers in the last two seasons and played as captain. His performance was average. But it wasn't so bad that he won't get a team.
Besides, pacer Rubel Hossain also did not get a team. Last time he played for Khulna Tigers but his performance was extremely bad. Moreover, he was out of the game except for the Dhaka League and so no franchise sees any reason to pick him up.
Apart from them, Saikat Ali, Nazmul Islam Apu, Fazle Rabbi, Sadman Islam and Shamsur Rahman were the other one who did not get the team from the draft.
Pacer Mrittunjoy Chowdhury is going to miss another BPL due to injury.
There are many more cricketers out of the draft. However the franchisees can take them later if they need their service.
