Sabbir, who injured in anti-discriminatory student movement, dies

CUMILLA, Sept 14, 2024 (BSS) – Md Sabbir, who was injured in the anti-discrimination student movement, passed away this morning. He was 17.

Sabbir, son of late Mohammad Alamgir Mia at Dakshin Vinglabari village of Debidwar town area in Cumilla, was injured in police firing in Debidwar on August 5.

After receiving treatment in the hospital for more than a month, he returned home yesterday but died at his home at 9:30 am today.

Sabbir's family sources said that students brought out a joyous procession in Devidwar upazila after the fall of dictator Sheikh Hasina through the anti-discriminatory student movement on August 5.   

At one state, some miscreants attacked the police station and set fire to police vehicle. They also attacked the police, the law enforcers also retaliated and around 60 students were injured in police firing. At that time, Sabbir received bullet injuries in his head.

Locals took him to the Devidwar Upazila Health Complex. But, on duty doctor sent Sabbir to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

After more than a month of treatment, Sabbir returned home on Friday. But on Saturday morning Sabbir breathed his last.

Sabbir’s mother Rina Begum told BSS that she brought her son home yesterday after more than a month of treatment in hospital. But this morning, Sabbir suddenly felt severe body pain and died, she added.

She said that Sabbir quitted his study and started running CNG auto-rickshaw to carry the responsibility of their family as his father died two years ago.

Debidwar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nigar Sultana told BSS that the administration is on the side of Sabbir's family.
