SUNAMGANJ, June 21, 2025 (BSS) - The district administration has issued 14
instructions regarding the tourist spots in the district, including Tanguar
Haor.

Around 10 am today, a post was shared on the Sunamganj District
Commissioner's Facebook page with 14 instructions for tourists.

The post mentioned that Tanguar Haor is located in 10 mouzas of Tahirpur and
Madhyanagar upazilas of the district, consisting of 109 small and large
beels.

Tanguar Haor, located at the foothills of the Himalayas, is indeed the second
largest freshwater wetland in the country, covering an area of approximately
12,655.14 hectares.

Considering the environmental heritage and ecological importance, the
government has recognized Tanguar Haor as an internationally endangered
special area and listed it as a Ramsar site under the Ramsar Convention.

Raising tourist awareness is crucial for safeguarding the biodiversity and
natural beauty of endangered haors like Tanguar Haor.

Therefore, the following are the instructions that must be followed by
tourists:

Things that tourists should avoid at tourist spots in Sunamganj:

No loud music or music playing, no inorganic or plastic products or waste can
be thrown into the water of the haor, no fishing, hunting or collecting bird
eggs, no disturbance to the normal life of birds, no detergent, shampoo or
chemicals can be used, no cutting of trees, breaking of tree branches or
collection of forest resources can be done, no entry into the core zone or
protected area, no man-made organic waste can be thrown into the haor.

Things that tourists should do at tourist spots in Sunamganj:

Use the waterways designated by the district administration, wear a life
jacket, avoid using plastic products, observe birds and animals from a
distance and take pictures without flash, use local guides and services and
refrain from lighting campfires or fires.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Ilias Mia confirmed the matter and told BSS
that arrangements are being made to put up leaflets in every boat with these
instructions for tourists.

Arrangements are being made to put up signboards with these instructions for
tourists at the Sunamganj Saheb Bari Ghat, he added.

The signboards will be put up within 2/3 days. In addition, the concerned
Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) have been instructed to put up signboards at
the tourist spots in their respective upazilas.
