Seeds, fertilizers distributed among 495 farmers in Bagerhat

BAGERHAT, Oct 21, 2025 (BSS) - Seeds and chemical fertilizers are being distributed among 495 small and marginal farmers of Mollahat upazila in Bagerhat under the government's agricultural incentive programme for the fiscal year 2025-26.

The initiative has been undertaken by the Upazila Department of Agricultural Extension under the Agricultural Rehabilitation and Incentive Sector.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shyamananda Kundu inaugurated the distribution programme as the chief guest this morning on the premises of the upazila parishad.

Speaking on the occasion, the UNO said, "Small and marginal farmers are being assisted in early winter vegetable cultivation under this incentive programme during the Rabi season. This initiative will encourage early vegetable farming, boost production, and ensure timely supply of vegetables to the market."

According to the Upazila Agriculture Office, a total of 495 farmers are receiving the incentive support.

Of them, 150 farmers will receive seven types of Ufshi variety vegetable seeds (total 500 grams) for early winter vegetable cultivation in their homesteads.

The remaining 345 farmers will receive seeds and fertilizers for field cultivation of hybrid varieties of gourd, brinjal, sweet pumpkin, and cucumber.

As per the allocation -- 40 farmers will receive 200 grams of seeds, 10 kg of DAP and 10 kg of MOP for gourd cultivation. 100 farmers will receive 80 grams of seeds, 10 kg of DAP and 10 kg of MOP for brinjal cultivation. 100 farmers will receive 30 grams of seeds, 10 kg of DAP and 10 kg of MOP for sweet pumpkin cultivation and 100 farmers will receive 40 grams of seeds, 10 kg of DAP and 10 kg of MOP for cucumber cultivation.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Matiur Rahman presided over the function.

Among others, Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Md. Hasan Ali, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Rajib Roy, Additional Agriculture Officer Mehedi Hasan, Upazila Jamaat Secretary Md. Hedayet Ullah, Press Club Mollahat General Secretary M. M. Mofizur Rahman, Vice President Md. Moniruzzaman Molla, Abdullah Faruk, and journalist KM Mahamudul Haque were present.

Speakers at the event said the government initiative would help farmers economically and contribute positively to the rural economy.
