5,500 kg potato seeds distributed among farmers in Gopalganj, Pirojpur

GOPALGANJ, Dec 4, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) today distributed 5,500 kg of potato seeds free of cost among farmers in Gopalganj and Pirojpur districts.

Various high-yielding potato varieties developed by BARI under a partner project were handed over by the Field Research Department at the Agricultural Research Center in Ghonapara under Gopalganj Sadar upazila.

Dr. Mohsin Hawlader, Head of the Gopalganj Agricultural Research Center and Senior Scientific Officer of BARI, attended the programme as the chief guest and distributed the seeds among 35 farmers of the two districts.

Officers and employees of the Gopalganj Agricultural Research Center, farmers, and media personnel were also present.

Dr. Hawlader said farmers of Gopalganj and Pirojpur will cultivate three hectares of land with the 5,500 kg of potato seeds. This will help expand potato cultivation and boost production in the two districts, he added.

He further said the high-yielding potato varieties developed by BARI under a partner project were handed over by the Field Research Department at the Agricultural Research Center in Ghonapara under Gopalganj Sadar upazila.
