TANGAIL, March 17, 2026 (BSS) - Traffic on the Dhaka–Tangail–Jamuna Bridge highway has increased significantly as Eid travel intensified, though vehicles are still moving at normal speeds without major congestion.
According to officials, a total of 35,658 vehicles crossed the Jamuna Bridge over a 24-hour period from midnight March 15 to midnight March 16. This rise in traffic reflects the growing number of people heading home for the upcoming Eid celebrations.
Data from the Jamuna Bridge Authority shows that 20,075 vehicles traveled toward North Bengal via the eastern end of the bridge, generating toll revenue of Taka 1,42,84,500. Meanwhile, 15,583 vehicles crossed toward Dhaka on the western end, contributing Taka 1,41,65,200 in tolls. Altogether, toll collection reached approximately Taka 2.84 crore within the day.
Syed Riaz Uddin, Executive Engineer of the Jamuna Bridge Site Office in Tangail, confirmed the figures and said measures are in place to manage the increased traffic flow. A total of 18 toll booths, including nine dedicated motorcycle lanes, have been set up on both sides of the bridge to facilitate smoother movement.
Despite the growing pressure, authorities report that vehicles are moving steadily without traffic jams. Two wreckers have also been deployed on the bridge to respond quickly to any accidents or breakdowns.
Law enforcement agencies remain active on the highway, working to ensure safe and uninterrupted travel during the busy Eid period.
