Naogaon's ‘Nak Fazli’ mango gets GI recognition

NAOGAON, May 6, 2025 (BSS) – 'Nak Fazli', a high-quality mango variety produced in Naogaon district has been recognised as a Geographical Indication (GI) product of Bangladesh.

Badalgachhi Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Sabab Farhan confirmed the matter to BSS on Tuesday afternoon.
 
According to the World Intellectual Property Organisation, GI is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin.

The Upazila Agriculture Officer said that on May 1, Advocate Muzaffar Hossain, President of the 'Nak Fazli Mango' Farmers' Cooperative Society Limited officially received the GI certificate on behalf of Naogaon district in a ceremony organised on the occasion of World Intellectual Property Day.

Agriculture Officer Sabab Farhan said that Naogaon’s 'Nak Fazli Mango' is incomparable in taste, sweet and fragrant. This fruit contributes greatly to the economic growth of the region.

The Nak Fazli mango is mostly grown in Badalgachhi Upazila of Naogaon.

The taste and nutritional value of this mango have made it popular across the country. People of the district expressed optimism that this traditional delicious mango will open different dimensions of possibilities in the agriculture based economy of the country.
