Govt sincere enough to continue projects on women’s empowerment: ICT Secretary

DHAKA, May 8, 2025 (BSS) – ICT Division Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury today said that the government is sincere enough to continue projects on enhancing technological skills of the womenfolk, ensuring their inclusiveness in economic activities and thus ensuring women development and empowerment.

The ICT Division Secretary said this while addressing as chief guest a seminar titled “Women in Technology” at the FBCCI office in the capital today. FBCCI Administrator Md Hafizur Rahman presided over the seminar, said an FBCCI press release.

Mentioning that some 21 project are now being implemented under the auspices of the ICT Division, Shish said that the womenfolk are getting scopes for improving ICT-based knowledge and skills under these projects.

He also opined that the ICT Division and the FBCCI can jointly work on technology, innovation, research and development related activities.

Speaking at the seminar as the special guest, Additional Secretary to the Energy and Mineral Resources Division (Development) Dr Nurunnahar Chowdhury said that there is a need to change the mindset towards incorporating the womenfolk in digital transformation.

CEO of SDM, a Saudi-based tech firm on health affairs, Professor Selwa A. F. Al-Hazzaa led a business delegation at the seminar and said that they would start working in Bangladesh soon on heath related technology and services.

While delivering his welcome address, FBCCI Administrator Md Hafizur Rahman put emphasis on boosting international linkage and networking by the women of the country in order to stay competitive in the global stage.

Oracle Country Managing Director (Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan) Rubaba Dowla made the keynote presentation while Mir Telecom Director Mehrin Nasir, Pran-RFL Group Head of Sustainability (marketing) Sumaiya Tabassum Ahmed, sharetrip.com CEO Sadia Haque and Bangladesh University of Health Sciences Assistant Professor Md Aminul Islam spoke, among others, at the seminar.

Bangladesh CNG Machineries Importers Association President Md Zakir Hossain Nayan gave the vote of thanks.

FBCCI supporting committee members Md Abdul Huq, Md Giasuddin Chowdhury (Khokon), Md Belayet Hossain Bhuiyan, FBCCI Secretary General Md Alamgir, FBCCI general body members Zakir Hossain, Atikur Rahman, Saida Akhter and other business leaders and women entrepreneurs were present among others on the occasion.
