DHAKA, Aug 26, 2026 (BSS) -National Board of Revenue (NBR) has sealed the production facility of Beauty Tobacco Company in Manikganj after detecting counterfeit banderoles on 90,000 cigarettes and recovering 13,000 unused fake banderoles during a joint operation.

A joint team of the Manikganj District Detective Branch (DB) Police and the Customs, Excise and VAT Department, Manikganj, conducted the raid at the tobacco company in Shibaloy on August 11 following a tip-off, according to an NBR press release issued today.

During the operation, the team seized 370,000 cigarettes of King Black, D&G, Dollar, Senor Gold and Barbie brands along with 13,000 unused stamp banderoles on suspicion that the banderoles were counterfeit.

Samples of the seized cigarettes and banderoles were subsequently sent to the Security Printing Corporation (Bangladesh) Ltd. in Gazipur on August 12 for verification.

The Security Printing Corporation confirmed on August 23 that the banderoles affixed to Dollar-brand cigarettes and the unused banderoles were fake.

Of the total 370,000 cigarettes seized, 90,000 were found carrying counterfeit banderoles, while all 13,000 unused banderoles were also counterfeit.

The customs duties and taxes involved in the irregularities are estimated at around Tk 1.132 million, the NBR said.

A criminal case was filed against Beauty Tobacco Company at Shibaloy Police Station on August 26 evading duties and taxes through the storage and use of counterfeit and illegal banderoles.

The company's production facility has meanwhile been shut down and sealed/ thr NBR release added.
