JOYPURHAT, Feb 29, 2024 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced nine people to life term imprisonment for killing a man in Sadar upazila here in 2013.
 
Additional District and Session Judge Nurul Islam handed down the verdict to Abdur Rouf, Ali Hossain, Khokon Hossain, Ruhul Amin, Belal Hossain, Rokon Hossain, Babu Hossain, Mizanur Rahman and Sirajul Islam.
 
The court also fined each of the convicted Taka 50,000, in default, to suffer two more years in jail.
 
According to the prosecution, on November 1 in 2013 the convicts hacked farmer Nurul to death in a paddy field at Hichmi village of the upazila over land dispute.
 
Following the murder victim's son filed a case with Joypurhat Sadar Police Station.
 
Police pressed the charge sheet on March 30 in 2014 accusing 11 people.
 
Testifying witnesses and evidence the court gave the punishment. The court also acquitted two persons as the charges against them were not proved, said Public Prosecutor Nipendranath Mondol.
