CHATTOGRAM, March 31, 2024 (BSS)-A Chattogram court today awarded life term imprisonment to a drug trader pickup van driver for trading drugs in the city in 2021.

The court of Chattogram 4th Metropolitan Additional Sessions Judge Shariful Alam Bhuiyan awarded life-term imprisonment to drug trader Ibrahim Khalil, hailed from Cumilla district.  
The court also fined taka 10,000, in default, he will have to suffer another one year imprisonment for the same.

According to the prosecution story is in brief that acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB, detained pickup van driver Ibrahim Khalil and his assistant Md Halim with 9,895 pieces of Yaba tablets from city’s Oxyzen area under Biyazid thana are on April 21 in 2021.

The then RAB, DAD Shahidul Alam, filed a case with Biyazid thana against the alleged drug traders on the same day.   

Police submitted the charge sheet before the court on January 19, in 2021 against Khalil while the court framed charges against him on November 30, 2021. 

The court announced the verdict in absence of the convict after examining a total of eight prosecution witnesses out of 12.    

The court also acquitted the pick van helper Md Halim as the allegation against him was not proved.
