CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Augt 14, 2024 (BSS)- A Chapainawabganj court on Tuesday afternoon sentenced one person to life-term imprisonment and fined him Tk 50,000 for two years more to suffer in jail in default.

The convicted person was Belal Hossain, 35, son of late Mursadi of Raninagar Kumurpur village under Godagari upazila in Rajshahi district.

Senior District and Session Judge Md. Adeeb Ali gave the verdict in presence of the convict.

According to the prosecution story, a team from Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on a tip conducted a raid at Dariapur Truck Terminal area under Chapainawabganj municipality on January 11, 2021 and arrested Belal with 1.5 kg of heroin and also detained a truck.

Next day sub-inspector Md. Tofazzal Hossain of RAB-5 filed a case with Chapainawabganj Sadar Model thana accusing Belal.

Later investigating officer (IO) of the case sub-inspector Md. Obaidul Hoque of Chapainawabganj Sadar police station submitted charge sheet against him to the court on February 19, 2021.

After a long hearing the court handed down the punishment, the court sources added.
