BRAHMANBARIA, Aug 16, 2024 (BSS) - A woman was killed and 15 others were injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Baishamura area of ??Shahbazpur union under Sarail upazila of the district today.

The deceased was identified as Hajera Khatun, 45, wife of Abdul Quddus Miah of Mogaltula village of Sadar union under Sarail upazila of the district.

The accident occurred in the area when a passenger bus of Diganta Paribahan was going to Madhabpur upazila in Habiganj from Brahmanbaria district town. On the way, the bus overturned on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway as its driver lost control around 11:30am. The woman died on the spot and 15 other passengers of the bus were injured, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sarail Khantihata Highway Police Station Ashish Kumar Sanyal said.

The injured were taken to local hospitals, the OC said.

Police seized the bus from the spot, but its driver and helper managed to flee from the scene.

Legal action is under process in this connection, the OC added.
