ISHWARDI, Aug 21, 2024 (BSS) - A speedy tribunal in Rajshahi sentenced nine people to death sentence and five others to life-term imprisonment for killing a man in 2022.

Judge of the tribunal Md Mohiduzzaman handed down the verdict to Awami League leader Alauddin Malitha, his brother Shapon Malitha, Ripon Malitha, Ashik Malitha, Rakib Malitha, Arafat Hossain, Md Ronzu, Md Jony and Alif Malitha.

The convicts who got life-term imprisonment are Dulal Malitha, Razu, Haider Malitha, Shanzu Malitha and Belal Hossain Uzzal. All of them are the residents in Pabna district.

According to the prosecution on September 19 in 2022 the convicts stabbed Syder, a resident at Char Protappur Kablipara in Pabna Sadar Upazila, to death after shooting him at Char Bangabaria over previous enmity. A case was filed by one of his family members following the murder. Police pressed the charge sheet accusing 21 people later.

However, the court acquitted seven accused as the charges brought out against them could not be proved.
