JAMALPUR, Oct 7, 2024 (BSS) - Preparation for the celebration of Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community, is going on in full swing in the district.
Sources at District Puja Udjapan Parishad said the Durga Puja will begin in the district on October 9 and continue till October 13 through immersion of the idols of goddess Durga in water bodies.
A total of 189 Puja mandaps will be erected in the district this year, the sources said.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Office sources said 46 Puja Mandaps will be erected in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila, while 44 Puja Mandaps in Sarishabari, 28 Puja Mandaps in Madarganj, 23 Puja Mandaps in Dewanganj, 15 Puja Mandaps in Islampur, 21 Puja Mandaps in Melandaha and 12 Puja Mandaps in Bakshiganj upazila will set up.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Alamgir Hossain said a total of 94.50 tonnes of rice has been distributed among the authorities of Puja Mandaps, of which, each of the Puja Mandap got 500 kilograms of rice.
President of Puja Udjapan Parishad Prodip Kumar Shom Ranu said people of the Hindu community are in festive moods over the upcoming Durga Puja.
District administration sources said all steps will be taken so that people of the Hindu community can celebrate the Puja in a peaceful and festive atmosphere.
Four tier-securities will be enforced in each Puja Mondap to maintain law and order situation in the district
