RANGPUR, Nov 28, 2024 (BSS) - Director General (Grade-1) of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) Mohammed Alim Akhter Khan has said that consumers' rights must be ensured through joint efforts of all.
"The government has taken a tough stance against syndicates. Even so, public cooperation is very vital to break the syndicate," he said while addressing a seminar held at the conference room of the divisional commissioner here as the chief guest today.
The Rangpur divisional administration and Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) jointly organised the seminar titled 'Strengthening consumer rights protection activities of CAB in Rangpur division' with President of CAB Central Committee Jamil Chowdhury in the chair.
Regarding CAB, the Director General said that CAB is a self-serving organization. The members of this organization must work with the mentality of providing services spontaneously.
"In the interest of common consumers, CAB members must take initiatives for various awareness-raising activities," he said.
The DNCRP Director General said traders violating law and order in the market should not only be fined, but exemplary punishment should be provided to them.
He urged all concerned to inform the DNCRP or local administrations if they see any irregularities in the quality, quantity, price increase or any other irregularities in the market.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md Asaduzzaman, Deputy Director (Additional Responsibilities) at the divisional office of the DNCRP Afsana Parvin and CAB General Secretary Advocate Humayun Kabir Bhuiyan spoke as special guests.
Government officials and CAB representatives from different districts of Rangpur division and local journalists were present at the event.
