JOYPURHAT, Jan 29, 2025 (BSS) -The Immigration Police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) today arrested former Mayor of Joypurhat Municipality and district Awami League Joint Secretary Mostafizur Rahman Mostak from the airport.

The immigration police arrested him following a requisition from the Joypurhat Police while he was trying to flee for Malaysia. He was accused in various cases including Bishal murder during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Jahangir Alam of the Detective Branch (DB) of Joypurhat district police told BSS that Mostak went into hiding after the fall of fascist Sheikh Hasina’s government on August 5 last. 

Joypurhat Police earlier sent arrest warrants against Mostak to different immigration centres of the country. He would be produced before the Joypurhat court tomorrow.

A team of Joypurhat Police has already been left here for Dhaka to take him back to Joypurhat.
