Ferry movement at Paturia-Daulatdia route resumes after eight hours

MANIKGANJ, Feb 3, 2025 (BSS): Ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia route resumed this morning after an 8-hour suspension due to dense fog, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) sources said.

Nasir Mahmud Chowdhury, Deputy General Manager (DGM) of BIWTC Paturia Ghat, said that ferry movement was halted around 12:15 AM due to poor visibility, as the heavy fog obscured navigation lights along the river channel.

During the suspension, seven ferries-Hasna Hena, Golam Maula, Shah Poran, Shah Enayetpuri, Shah Keramat Ali, Beer Shreshtha Matiur Rahman, and Bir Shreshtha Jahangir-remained stranded at Paturia Ghat. Meanwhile, another seven ferries-Dhaka, Bir Shreshtha Ruhul Amin, Shaheed Borkot, Gouri, Bonolota, Vigar, and Kopoti-were stuck at Daulatdia Ghat.

At 8:10 AM today (Monday), ferry operations resumed at full capacity, ensuring the smooth transportation of passengers and vehicles, DGM Chowdhury confirmed.

Meanwhile, ferry services on the Aricha-Kazirhat route were also disrupted due to dense fog. BIWTC Aricha Ghat Manager Md. Abdullah said that operations were suspended from 12:30 AM on Sunday until 8:40 AM today.
However, by 8:00 AM on Sunday, ferry movement had returned to normal, the DGM said.
