Six rice mills fined in Dinajpur for breaching govt supply agreement

DINAJPUR, July 31, 2025 (BSS) - Six auto rice mills here have been fined a total of Taka 1.7 lakh for failing to deliver rice to government warehouses as per their contract with the Food Department.

Dinajpur District Food Control Officer Subir Nath Chowdhury disclosed it at a press briefing this afternoon.

The drive was conducted from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm today in the Sadar Upazila areas, led by Executive Magistrate Zarif Sultan of the district administration, he said. 

The operation was jointly carried out by the District Food Control Department, the National Consumer Rights Protection Department, the police and the army, he added.

The penalized mills include: Boyra Auto Rice Mill (Tk 50,000), Nabanna Muri Mill (Tk 50,000), Syeda Elmis Chowdhury Auto Rice Mill (Tk 35,000), Messrs. Nilufa Automatic Rice Mills (Tk 25,000), Bismillah Auto Rice Mills (Tk 50,000) and Pubali Auto Rice Mills (Tk 10,000).

Executive Magistrate Zarif Sultan said that strict action will be taken in the future if the supply of paddy and rice to government warehouses is not ensured within the agreed timeframe.
