CHATTOGRAM, Jan 9, 2026 (BSS) - Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) detained six people, including the main accused in the 350 Bhori gold bars stolen case, and recovered 290 Bhori of stolen gold in different areas of the city. 

The market value of the gold is Tk 5.8 crore. The six arrested individuals were identified as Suman Chandra Das (42), Md. Masud Rana (30), Rafiqul Islam (22), Ravi Kumar Das (40), Panna Rani Das (38) and Vivek Banik (42).

CMP Deputy Police Commissioner (DB-North) Md. Habibur Rahman disclosed the information at a press conference today. 

He said that Sabuj Debnath and two others were on their way to Bayezid Bostami Police Station from the area under Kotwali Police Station around 5 am on January 4. 

They were stopped by four robbers on two motorcycles in the Atura depot area. The robbers threatened and assaulted them, stealing 35 gold bars, three used mobile phones, and cash before fleeing the scene. The incident was reported to Panchlaish Model Police Station the following day.

A joint operation team comprising Panchlaish Model Police Station and DB (North) Division conducted an operation in various areas of Dhaka and Chattogram with the help of secret sources and information technology to track down the robbers.

During the investigation, a Suzuki Gixxer motorcycle used in the robbery was found in their possession. Suman Chandra Das confessed during the initial questioning that he along with others committed the robbery and that the stolen gold bars were either with his wife, Panna Rani Das (38), or her cousin, Ravi Kumar Das (40).

Following the confession, Ravi Kumar Das (40) was apprehended from the Rayer Bazar area under Mohammadpur Police Station on the same day. Subsequently, Panna Rani Das (38) was arrested from the Barapol area under Halishahar Police Station of CMP at around 10:15 pm on the same day.

CMP Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Amirul Islam said that Vivek Banik (42) was arrested from the Kotwali police station area at 12:45 am on Thursday.

Further interrogation revealed that the 29 stolen gold bars were initially kept by Panna Rani Das and later transferred to Ravi Kumar Das. The gold was eventually left with Sakshi Pratima Das. Subsequently, a paper box labeled "Pure it Classic Germ Kill Kit" was recovered from a house on the 5th floor of Siraj Mia Building near Baishakhi Playground under DMP's Mohammadpur police station on January 9.

Inside the box, 29 gold bars wrapped in a yellow plastic bag were found, each bar marked in English as 'sam 10 TOLAS GOLD 999.0'. The operation to apprehend other suspects in this case is ongoing.
