MADARIPUR, Feb 12, 2026 (BSS) - Voting in the 13th National Parliament election began across Madaripur district on Thursday morning in a peaceful and festive atmosphere, with voters lining up early to exercise their franchise.

Among the early voters was Muntasir Rahman Taukir, a physically challenged new voter, who cast his ballot for the first time at 7:30 am at the Government Girls’ High School polling station in Madaripur Municipality.

Expressing his excitement after voting, Taukir said, “I came to vote peacefully for the first time in my life with my father without any hassle. I had come once before, but could not vote and later returned home. It feels great to be able to vote today. Alhamdulillah, I am able to vote.”

Taukir, the son of local schoolteacher Mizanur Rahman, said he was satisfied to have voted in a normal and orderly environment.

Voting began at 7:30 am in 381 polling stations across three parliamentary constituencies in the district and will continue until 4:30 pm. Of the total centers, 244 have been identified as vulnerable.

According to the Madaripur District Returning Officer’s office, a total of 1,148,330 voters are expected to cast their votes in the three constituencies. Among them, 553,007 are female voters, 595,309 are male voters, and 12 belong to the third gender. The voter roll has increased by 81,897 compared to the previous parliamentary election.
