KHULNA, March 11, 2026 (BSS) - An initiative has been taken to transform Dumuria Police Station in Khulna into a "zero complaint", aiming to ensure that local residents receive prompt services and have no grievances against police.

If implemented successfully, the initiative is expected to reduce public suffering and boost people's confidence in law enforcement by ensuring efficient and responsive police services.

Khulna Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman confirmed the initiative to BSS.

Under the plan, a circle officer will supervise the overall activities of the police station. The station covers an area of about 454 square kilometres and serves a population of around 343,899 people.

Officials concerned said the initiative aims to ensure peace and discipline in the area through improved policing and stronger accountability.

According to geographical information, Dumuria upazila is bordered by Phultala upazila and Abhaynagar and Monirampur upazilas of Jashore in the north, Batiaghata and Paikgachha upazilas in the south, Khan Jahan Ali and Khalishpur areas of Khulna city in the east, and Tala upazila of Satkhira and Keshabpur upazila of Jashore in the west. The upazila comprises 14 unions.

Sources said the area was once considered a stronghold of extremist groups. During different government regimes, incidents of extortion and land grabbing were reported at various times.

After the 13th parliamentary election, local Member of Parliament Ali Asgar Lobi raised his voice against extortion and illegal land occupation. He assured residents of protection and encouraged them to speak out against criminal activities.

The lawmaker also instructed law enforcement agencies to take action against criminals operating under the cover of politics.

Khulna Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman said Dumuria Police Station has been selected to implement the government's decision.

"People will be able to lodge complaints with the police without hesitation. The process is being simplified to ensure police assistance for the safety of life and property," he said.

Additional Superintendent of Police (DSB) Sheikh Imran said once the "zero complaint" police station initiative begins, there will be no grievances from the public regarding police services.

"To improve public services, manpower will be strengthened and skilled officers will be deployed. Public harassment will decrease and people's trust in the police will grow. It will be a modern policing system," he added.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dumuria Police Station Md Kamal Hossain said the police station has four permanent outposts along with temporary outposts and an investigation centre to ensure security for residents of the upazila.

However, he said he had not yet received any official directive regarding the implementation of the "zero complaint" police station initiative.

The OC said the law and order situation in the area has remained normal following the recent election.

Dumuria is the largest upazila in Khulna district in terms of area. Agriculture and shrimp farming are the main sources of livelihood for people in the region.
