NARAIL, July 29, 2026 (BSS) - A seven-year old girl drowned in a pond near her house in Benadop area of Narail Municipality on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Sumaya, daughter of Rowshan Molla, a resident of the Benadop area. She was a class two student at Bijoypur Government Primary School.

According to family members, Sumaya accidentally fell into the pond near their home around 3.00 pm while playing, without the knowledge of her family.

Local residents later noticed her floating in the pond and rescued before rushing her to Narail District Hospital. However, the on-duty doctor declared her dead on arrival.

Narail Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ajoy Kumar Kundu said the body was handed over to the victim's family after the completion of the necessary legal formalities.
