JAMALPUR, August 24, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today convicted a man for abducting and raping a college girl in 2012 and sentenced him to life-term rigorous imprisonment (RI).

The convicted person was identified as Md Sanowar Hossain alias Nazmul, 28, son of Alam, of Fatepur village in Jamalpur upazila of the district.

According to the prosecution, Md Sanowar Hossain kidnapped a girl, who was studying in the honours programme and staying at a mess in Jamalpur Municipality area, on April 22, 2012. He took her to a house in Sherpur district and raped her.

Being informed, family members of the victim rescued her with the help of a former Union Parishad chairman.
A case was filed with Jamalpur Sadar Police Station on April 25, 2012.

Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1, Muhammad Abdur Rahim, found him guilty after examining eight prosecution witnesses and other relevant documents and handed down the verdict in absentia.
