CHATTOGRAM, Sept 1, 2026 (BSS) - Coast Guard has confiscated 410 sacks of urea fertilizer that were being illicitly transported to Myanmar from the Sitakunda upazila of the district today.
On Tuesday afternoon (September 1), Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan verified this information, stating that the estimated worth of the 410 sacks of urea fertilizer is approximately TK 14.35 lakh.
The vessel utilized for the smuggling operation was also seized during the raid. The Coast Guard reported that an operation was carried out in the Bhatiari area of Sitakunda upazila around 1 am on Monday, following a tip-off.
During this operation, a suspicious cargo boat was inspected, leading to the confiscation of the urea fertilizers.
Legal proceedings are underway concerning the seized fertilizer and the smuggling vessel, and the Coast Guard has indicated that such operations will continue in the future to combat smuggling.
