RANGPUR, Sept 1, 2026 (BSS) - The district and metropolitan units of
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its affiliated organisations
celebrated the 48th founding anniversary of the party through colorful
programmes here today.
The founding anniversary was celebrated at the city, district, upazila and
union council levels of the district through various programmes including
hoisting of national and party flags, tree plantation, fish release,
discussions, food distribution and cultural functions.
At the initiative of the district BNP, its convener and Rangpur District
Council Administrator Md Saiful Islam with party leaders and workers released
fish fry in Nilkanathya Zia Khal in Rangpur metropolis in the morning.
After that, he planted tree saplings in the city's Guptapara Government
Primary School premises and Chhoto Nurpur graveyard and fruit and distributed
forest and medicinal tree saplings among students in the premises of the
Homeopathy College in the city.
At these events, senior members of district BNP Md Fazlur Rahman Badal, Md
Liton Parvez, Md Shahadat Hossain and other leaders and activists were
present.
In the afternoon, the party leaders visited the grave of the former member-
secretary of the district BNP late Md Anisur Rahman Laku and offered munajats
there seeking eternal peace for his departed soul.
In the afternoon, a colorful procession, led by district BNP convener and
Rangpur District Council Administrator Md Saiful Islam, was taken out in the
city to mark the 48th founding anniversary of the BNP.
Later, the district BNP organised a discussion at the Public Library ground
at 3 pm and brought out a huge colorful rally from the Public Library ground
to Shapla Chattar Point in the city.
After the rally, a memorial meeting and prayer mahfil was held on the
occasion of the seventh death anniversary of the late heroic freedom fighter,
former General Secretary of Rangpur District BNP and a popular politician Md
Mozaffar Hossain.
Earlier at noon, Rangpur Metropolitan BNP took out a colorful procession from
the party office at the Grand Hotel Mor in the city.
Advocate Rezeka Sultana Fency, MP, Metropolitan BNP Convener and Rangpur
Development Authority Chairman Md Shamsuzzaman Samu, Senior Joint Convener Md
Shahidul Islam Mizu, Member-Secretary and Rangpur City Corporation
Administrator Advocate Mahfuz-un-Nabi Chowdhury Don, Senior Members Selim
Chowdhury, Abdus Salam, senior joint convener of Metropolitan Jubo Dal Jahir
Alam Nayan and others led the procession.
With the participation of hundreds of leaders and workers of BNP and its
associate organisations, the colorful procession ended at the Zilla School
after circumambulating important roads in the city.
Leaders and activists of various allied organizations including the
Metropolitan Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal, Swechchasebak Dal, Mahila Dal, Krishak
Dal, Tanti Dal, Sramik Dal, Ulama Dal, Zia Sangsad, JASAS and others
participated in the event.
At the initiative of former acting member-secretary of Rangpur Metropolitan
BNP and its incumbent senior member Selim Chowdhury, improved foods were
distributed among the needy in front of the city's Mulatol Medinatul Ulum
Kamil Madrasa.
Senior joint convener of the Rangpur Metropolitan BNP Md Shahidul Islam Mizu
attended the food distribution ceremony as the chief guest and distributed
foods among the poor and needy people of the city.
There was great enthusiasm among the leaders and activists of BNP and its
affiliated organisations surrounding the programmes organized on the occasion
of the party's 48th founding anniversary.
Hundreds of leaders and activists gathered in front of the party office with
processions from different wards and areas of the city and jointly
participated in the colorful rallies.
The BNP leaders and activists said that the party has been struggling for a
long time to establish the rights, democracy and voting rights of the people
of the country.
On this day of the founding anniversary, they expressed their determination
to make the party stronger and better organized.
After the rallies, the leaders called on the party leaders and activists to
remain united and expressed their determination to continue the movement and
struggle of BNP to establish the democratic rights of the people of the
country.
On September 1, 1978, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman founded the BNP. He was
the founding chairman of the party.
