WASHINGTON, June 28, 2025 (AFP) - UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed an agreement between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda as "a significant step" towards peace, after the two countries signed a deal to end fighting that has killed thousands.

"This Agreement is a significant step towards de-escalation, peace and stability" in the region, Guterres said in a statement, urging both countries to "honour in full" their commitments taken under the peace deal.
