BARGUNA, Jan 31, 2026 (BSS) — Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) nominated candidate for Barguna-1 constituency, Md. Nazrul Islam Molla has pledged to prioritize the development of the tourism sector and create employment opportunities for both men and women if elected in the 13th national parliament election.

He made the commitments in an exclusive interview with Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) ahead of the upcoming national election.

Barguna-1 constituency comprises Barguna Sadar, Amtali and Taltali upazilas, including two municipalities and 24 unions.

Nazrul Islam Molla said Barguna has long lagged behind in development, particularly in communication infrastructure.

“Though there is a highway in name, it has 42 curves and has failed to meet public expectations. The condition of internal roads is also very fragile,” he said.Highlighting the district’s potential, he noted that tourism could play a vital role in transforming Barguna’s economy.

“There is immense potential in the tourism sector here. Proper development in this area can generate large-scale employment for local men and women," he opined.
The previous government did not take effective steps in this regard, he added.

Molla, who served as Barguna district Jubo Dal president from 1991 to 2002 and district BNP president from 2018 to 2022, said solving problems in education, healthcare, tourism and employment would be his key priorities if elected.

On election code of conduct, he said BNP leaders and activists have been instructed to strictly follow the election code of conduct.

“We want a free, fair and acceptable election. We will cooperate with the administration to keep the election out of controversy,” he said.
He alleged that some small parties are trying to create confusion around the polls.

Regarding the July Charter, Molla said BNP was the first party to sign it, calling it “a lifelong demand” of the party.

Expressing optimism about the upcoming polls, he said, “I hope this will be a good election and that the people of Barguna will accept it wholeheartedly.”
In the Barguna-1 constituency, BNP’s Nazrul Islam Molla is contesting with the party symbol "Dhaner Shish (Sheaf of Paddy)".

Other candidates include Mohammad Jahangir Hossain of Khelafat Majlis (Deyal Ghori-Wall Clock) and Jamal Hossain of Jatiya Party (Bicycle).

The constituency has a total of 516,986 voters, including 256,892 male voters, 260,083 female voters and 11 voters from the third gender community.
