DHAKA, Jan 28, 2026 (BSS)- Nasiruddin Patwari, Chief Coordinator of National Citizen Party (NCP) and the 11-party alliance nominated candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, has said Motijheel would be developed as a modern, world-class financial hub by ensuring transparency and reform in the banking sector, capital market and financial services to protect the country’s wealth.

In an interview with BSS, Nasiruddin Patwari said a major portion of Bangladesh’s banking, financial and corporate activities is concentrated in Motijheel, which falls within the Dhaka-8 constituency.

“We want to transform Motijheel into a modern, internationally standard financial hub. Ensuring transparency in the banking sector, capital markets and financial services to safeguard the nation’s wealth is our top priority,” he said.

He noted that Dhaka-8 is a unique constituency where the country’s key financial, administrative, health and education institutions are concentrated in one place. As a result, while the challenges of the constituency are complex, its potential is equally immense. Considering these realities, he pledged to build a safe, service-oriented and livable Dhaka-8.

Referring to government services, Nasiruddin Patwari said Dhaka-8 hosts the highest number of government offices and public servants in the country.

“We want the people to receive services from government offices without harassment. Through digitalization and new management systems, the service sector will be made citizen-friendly,” he said.

Highlighting the presence of small and medium entrepreneurs and warehouse-based businesses in Dhaka-8, he said although these businesses are the driving force of the local economy, they have long suffered from mismanagement. He stressed the need to organize and secure this sector through proper planning.

On healthcare, Nasiruddin Patwari said Dhaka-8 includes some of the country’s largest public and private medical institutions, including Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Every day, thousands of patients and their attendants come to the area.

“Managing this huge patient pressure causes immense suffering for the people. If elected, I will take effective initiatives to make hospital-centric management more humane, disciplined and patient-friendly,” he said.

He said Dhaka University, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Dhaka Medical College all are located within the Dhaka-8 constituency. The area is essentially the country’s hub for producing knowledge and human resources.

“We want students not to remain confined only to academic studies; rather, they should be connected with industry and the job market during their study period so that after graduation they become skilled human resources instead of remaining unemployed,” he said.

He further noted that despite having gas and water pipelines in residential areas of Dhaka-8, many localities suffer from irregular supply. Dust pollution, poor waste management, lack of child-friendly educational environment and severe traffic congestion are also major problems of the constituency. Although these fall under local government jurisdictions, he said he would strongly raise these issues at the national level as a Member of Parliament.

Calling security, the core of his electoral commitment, Nasiruddin Patwari said, “Our main goal is a ‘Safe Dhaka-8’- an area where women can move freely and safely even late at night.”

He emphasized building a drug-free society, introducing technology-driven surveillance systems, and ensuring the safety of children and adolescents.

On the referendum issue, Nasiruddin Patwari said a referendum is not merely a political process, but a historic opportunity for people to express their will.

He noted that the 11-party alliance has taken a clear stance in favor of the referendum and initiatives are underway to build mass awareness on the issue in Dhaka-8.

“We are campaigning in favor of the referendum by distributing leaflets and handbills in kitchen markets, mosques, schools, colleges and shopping malls,” he said.

Expressing his expectations for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, Patwari said that the country has long been gripped by a climate of fear and repression, and the capture of various institutions has left ordinary citizens unable to speak freely. Yet, he remained optimistic, stating “People of Dhaka-8 are assuring us that through their votes, they will deliver a verdict against oppression and in favor of justice and reform.”

Regarding the electoral code of conduct, he said his party and supporters are strictly following it. “We do not engage in any provocation and believe in peaceful campaigning,” he said, alleging that some of their billboards and campaign materials related to the referendum and election were removed by the administration and opposition activists. Despite this, he said they would continue peaceful campaign.

Referring to the 11-party alliance, Nasiruddin Patwari said people are leaning toward the alliance because it speaks for the public.

“We are raising the voice of the people. The people themselves will take us to victory—Inshallah,” he added.
