DHAKA, Jan 1, 2026 (BSS) – BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today visited the graves of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia to offer prayers.

The BNP leader arrived at Ziaur Rahman’s mausoleum in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar’s Chandrima Uddyan at 5:15 pm. Upon arriving, he proceeded directly to the burial sites of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia. He first recited Surah Al-Fatiha and then offered munajat to Almighty Allah.

Following a period of restricted access, the mausoleum of Ziaur Rahman was reopened to the general public this afternoon. Large numbers of party leaders and activists gathered, carrying flowers to pay their respects to their beloved leader. They were seen praying fervently for her eternal peace.

Begum Khaleda Zia, the Chairperson of the BNP who breathed her last on December 30, 2025, was laid to rest with state honors yesterday afternoon, right beside the grave of President Ziaur Rahman.

Since the morning of New Year’s Day today, crowds of activists began gathering at the Bijoy Sarani intersection, eventually leading to a massive surge of people on the streets. Although the roads at Bijoy Sarani were opened around 9:00 am, security personnel initially restricted public entry to the mausoleum gates. Access was finally granted to the general public around 12 noon, allowing party workers and followers to offer their prayers at the gravesite.
