Special prayers for Khaleda Zia after Jummah prayer

DHAKA, Jan 2, 2026 (BSS) - Special prayers will be held in all mosques across the country today after Jummah prayers for former Prime Minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

The Islamic Foundation (IF) under the Ministry of Religious Affairs made the announcement in an official letter issued Tuesday by its Coordination Division and signed by Director Md Mohiuddin.

The letter said prayers seeking eternal peace of Begum Khaleda Zia's departed soul will be offered nationwide after today's Jummah prayers.

Following her demise, the government has declared three days of state mourning. During this period, the national flag is being remained at half-mast at all government, semi-government, autonomous and educational institutions, as well as public and private buildings and Bangladesh missions abroad.

The IF has instructed its divisional and district offices to ensure proper observance of the mourning programme and to take necessary measures for organizing the special prayers in line with the directive.
