BNP holds prayer congregation for eternal peace of Khaleda Zia's soul

DHAKA, Jan 2, 2026 (BSS) - BNP today organized a milad and prayer congregation seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of party chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

This milad and prayer congregation was held at Gulshan's Azad Mosque after the Asr prayer. 

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee Members Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Dr.  Abdul Moyeen Khan and Dr AZM Zahid Hossain and other senior party leaders and activists participated in the prayer congregation.

Earlier, on Thursday, BNP in a press release said instructions was given to organize milad and prayer congregations at convenient times on Friday at various locations across the country under the initiative of the party. Leaders at all levels of BNP and well-wishers were urged to participate in these events.

Begum Khaleda Zia passed away on Tuesday (December 30) at 6:00 AM while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka.

On December 31 last year (Wednesday), the former Prime Minister was buried with full state honors next to the grave of her husband, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. Her son Tarique Rahman buried his mother in the grave along with family members. Before the burial, the armed forces paid the state tribute 'Guard of Honor' to the deceased.

Prior to this, Khaleda Zia's historic funeral prayer was held in a large area adjacent to the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building and Manik Miah Avenue with the participation of missions of people.
