Justice Manik, Adv Qamrul shown arrested in uprising killing case

DHAKA, July 14, 2025 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today showed former judge of the Appellate Division Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik and former food minister Advocate Qamrul Islam arrested in a case lodged over the killing of schoolboy Rakib Hasan during the July mass uprising.
 
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MA Azharul Islam passed the order as police produced the duo before the court and pleaded to show them arrested in the case.
 
According to the case documents, Rakib Hasan, a seventh-grade student at ITZ School and College in Mohammadpur, joined the anti-discrimination student rally on July 19. He got shot in front of St Joseph Higher Secondary School and breathed his last at around 8.30 pm at a hospital.
 
His uncle Md Nurul Amin on September 22 filed the case against 87 including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
 
Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik was detained by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) from Zakiganj border area in Sylhet on August 24, 2024, while trying to flee to India. Police on November 18, 2024, arrested Advocate Qamrul Islam from a house in the Uttara Sector-12 area.
