DNC AD gets 8-year jail for looting of 90 bhori gold ornaments

DHAKA, Oct 20, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today convicted and sentenced six 
people including an Assistant Director (AD) of the Department of Narcotics 
Control (DNC) to different jail terms in a case lodged over looting a 
jewellery shop in Zindabahar Lane in Old Town and robbing 90 bhori of gold 
ornaments from there.

Judge Shihabul Islam of Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court-8 
pronounced the judgment, sentencing DNC AD SM Sakib Hossain and Jibon Paul to 
eight years of rigorous imprisonment.

It also sentenced DNC Sepoy Md Aminul Islam, Ratan Kumar Sen, Ibrahim Shikder 
and Md Emdadul Haque to five-year rigorous imprisonment each in the case, 
court bench assistant Milon Islam told BSS.

According to the case documents, Sakib Hossain, sepoy Aminul Islam and their 
source Harun on January 7, 2021, went to the shop in Zindabahar Lane and 
picked up shop owner Siddiqur Rahman and looted 90 bhori of gold ornaments, 
posing as officials of Detective Branch (DB) of Police. 

The victim on January 12, 2021, filed the case with Kotwali Police Station in 
this connection.

Police on October 5, 2021, filed a charge-sheet and a total 20 witnesses 
testified in the case on different hearing dates.
